Even with their initial meeting in the great chasm and follow-up in a cafe of Amor's choosing, Ameena had a hard time putting Cillian into a box. She was good at categorizing people, but he evaded her. Archaeology had been an unexpected curveball given his more business-like appearance. He hadn't seemed strange enough, either, to belong to the upper echelons of Rocket, and yet he did. He seemed level-headed, which she appreciated it, but she wished he was an easier read. [break][break]

She had to take the opportunity to walk the city with him. There were plans to discuss as far as the coming war was concerned. If she was lucky, she would have a better idea of just who he was, also.

Should Ameena have thought to put an ear to the grapevine, she'd find Cillian's reputation to be one of unwavering loyalty. Not once had he strayed from Rocket's cause, not even when the death of Silas Blackwell had sent the organization into disarray. He was known as a capable leader and a brutal enforcer.[break][break]

But precious little was known of who he was as a person.[break][break]

In Slateport, he is disguised as just another businessman walking the streets, utterly unassuming. No SHADOW MIASMA follows in his wake, and the stern Lucario that walks at his side is no shadow.[break][break]

So when he approaches ameena abadi, he greets her with, "It's Quinn. This is Faolan."[break][break]

The Lucario acknowledges her, unblinking, and flicks his ears.[break][break]

He was easy to miss when he wasn't going out of his way to be daunting. Or so she assumed, though perhaps it was no effort on his end to exude that threatening aura, and it was only an exertion to hold it back. In any case, she was pleased he cut straight to business. Pleasantries would have set her on edge.[break][break]

"Abadi," she greeted in kind, inclining her head to his Lucario. Her Gardevoir had no other name, so the duo followed him without further fanfare. She immediately cut to the chase. "Is it finalized? Do we know for certain that the course of action to take is... forward?" [break][break]

They passed a few steel types, which seemed prevalent in this area of the city. Ameena favored female pokemon and informed her Gardevoir telepathically to ensure they kept the Tinkaton for her collection.

"Extreme," she echoed thoughtfully. What kind of extreme circumstances could divert the warpath they were on?[break][break]

"Like divine intervention?" Her question didn't come out as amused as she intended. Rather, it sounded genuine. But she had seen far too many gods, including the pantheon unveiled while in a Megalopolan prison. She knew Necrozma, but there were countless appearances. The actual god of space had roared and a green time fairy had clearly over-exerted herself to protect them all. Ameena had done nothing to earn the protection of a god.[break][break]

Was the group on the ship, collectively, too important to suffer? She feared a consequence so disastrous time itself had to be manipulated. [break][break]

She ignored the sound of Gardevoir subduing a Klingklang in favor of assessing the underboss' nonchalance. Perhaps, the war on the horizon was easier to stomach if you had a god on your side already. Ameena couldn't imagine the feeling. Her worries of the region and the war were not totally satiated, not yet, so she gambled on irritating him by asking, "In this unstoppable march forward, do you ever fear you will be left behind?"

It has taken time and experience to accept his worth to Rocket. Once, he'd been nothing but a cowering grunt. Now he was an Avatar, an underboss, a king where he'd once been a pawn.[break][break]

A Minun makes the mistake of crossing his path. Having glimpsed the FUTURE with psychic SIGHT, Faolan is prepared to dispatch the interloper.[break][break]

"Mm, these are valuable on the market." The Black Market was ever-changing, but right now Minun were in. He taps its unconscious form with a ball, then glances at Ameena. "Do you fear irrelevancy?"

She needed to sit in the library and come up with a contingency for every single deity at this rate. Cillian follows it with an even simpler truth, that he could not be left behind.[break][break]

She doesn't doubt he's seen and done enough to warrant such confidence. [break][break]

But she can't feel the same about herself. He turns the question on her as Gardevoir contains an Electrode in a psychic prison. "Well, dream research is not necessarily the cutting edge for tools of war." Or it did not seem that way. That penitentiary had shown her the power of dreams and tera crystals when used together, though she did not know where to begin with harvesting it. "I suppose its less about being left behind and more about not being able to keep up."[break][break]

The revelation hit her as she spoke it aloud. She was working so hard to build her teams and grow her knowledge of the region. "But I am almost prepared to build a Genesect. Their programming is just a little complicated..."

A Zebstrika gallops past at breakneck speed. Cillian turns his head to watch it go with mild amusement, then returns his full attention to ameena abadi.[break][break]

"We will not be at war forever." He shrugs. "And even if we were, there is more to war than violence and conquest. We still need technology, infrastructure, scientific advancement... perhaps even dreams."[break][break]

He's biased, of course. His sister had built a dream machine.[break][break]

"Yes, I found that bit troubling, as well. I asked Lulu Flint to assist with mine. She's an excellent programmer." There's pride brimming behind those words.

Cillian was open-minded. She needed to remind herself to be open to unusual opportunities and interdisciplinary revelations -- Hoenn was too strange to permit any other attitude. Maybe she could find a way to use dreams to aid in the collective Rocket conquest, maybe she couldn't, but that research would support some goal or other eventually. [break][break]

"Programming, dream research, fieldwork, networking," Ameena listed, "Lulu Flint has no shortcomings as far as I have seen." She shared Cillian's pride. She owed Lulu a lot. It was her work and connection to Rocket that confirmed to Ameena that she could do good work with them, that her work could align with their interest, and that there was a scientific community in Hoenn not tied down by worthless ethical quandary. Ameena was getting closer to Genesect. Gardevoir played with the tassel on the wild Honedge, far familiar with Amenea's own Doublade, and reminded Ameena of the value of familiarity. "After witnessing Megalopolan prowess and technology first hand, I wonder if there is an avenue to explore with them in terms of preparing for war. Have you any experience in collaborating with one directly?" She knew Rocket had connections with at least one, though she had personally never interacted with any beyond the child at the Penitentiary.
